Sports day 2015 was a triumphant success for NorthGate College. On Thursday 12th February, a sea of students and teachers dressed in their team jerseys: purple, green, red and blue were all gathered at UWI Sports and Physical Education Centre grounds. The theme for this year’s Sports Day was “Stepping out of the old and into the new”.

This theme was seen throughout the day’s proceedings. The day started with NGC’s alternative to the traditional ‘March Past’ – Pageantry. This dramatic expression showed the struggle to enter into the new as it does not come without its challenges, distractions, and obstacles. The students creatively expressed the principles required to prevail and press into the new which was portrayed with glorious musical interludes, theatrical presentations, dance choreography and props. The judges had a difficult time selecting a winner from the four teams, but in the end Team Destiny received the highest nod of approval.

Sporting activities such as 100m, 200m, 400m Male and Female races, Dizzy Derby Team relay and the much anticipated Tug of War found eager participation. Even the onlookers, parents and well-wishers were intently engaged with cheering, photography, video capture, and lots of laughter. Congratulations to Team Destiny who topped the list and emerged as the winners having accumulated the most points from the pre-sport events and the day’s activities.

Commendations must be conferred on all the students who participated and displayed praiseworthy sportsmanship. Though the environment was competitive, no one lost sight of the camaraderie and sense of oneness that is a pillar of the NorthGate College community. Many thanks must be shared with the teachers who worked tirelessly to ensure that the day was a success, and to the parents who supported this venture in many different forms.
